3/24/11 Roseville, CA book signing huge disappointment

March 25, 2011 by rockmom3

I'm 46 years old and Sammy was my first rock concert when I was 13. I was hooked and have been a huge fan ever since!! I pre-ordered his book and read it the day it arrived. When I heard he was doing a book signing on March 24, 2011 in Roseville I was so excited--finally a local event where I could meet Sammy and take my kids (ages 16, 13 and 12). My kids were excited too--after hearing about Sammy and the concerts I've been to, they could finally meet the object of my 30 plus year obsession!

We went to the book signing at Barnes & Noble in Roseville, CA last night and waited about 45 minutes in the wind--the rain had thankfully stopped. Then it was a wild maze of fans and winding through the book store to get to Sammy. As I'm getting out the book someone takes it out of my hands, puts it on a table, it gets signed and handed back to me. All this happens in about 3 seconds and I didn't even get to say Hi to Sammy or see him sign my book. We were roughly 'moved along' and rushed out of the store. I found out outside that my daughter was 'moved along' a little too roughly and she tripped and fell. My son helped her up while the security stood there and told them to hurry up.

I was angry and when I went to the Roseville Barnes & Noble manager to speak with him, he walked away.

I have been to book signings before and I know how it goes--you get about 20 seconds to say Hi maybe shake hands, if you're lucky you can get a picture, you get a Thank You for buying the book and coming, you get your book signed and its over. Its short, sweet and fun.

Last night I felt like unwanted company and that all of us fans being there was a big inconvenience.

It was clearly noted in all advertisements for the event that there would be no photo ops and no memorabilia signing--ONLY the book would be signed. I didn't have delusions that we would get there and have a long cozy chat. I don't know how many fans were in attendance, but there were hundreds of us and when Barnes & Noble ran out of books, I was greatful I had pre-ordered mine. I just wish I had been able to at least see it being signed and had a chance to actually see Sammy.

I am greatful that one of his stops on the book tour was local to me, and that he took the time to appear. But...I am extremely angry that the people around Sammy made us feel like we were an bothersome inconvenience and that the time spent with the fans who support Sammy is a major waste of time. I don't know how much control and input Sammy has on these events, but it directly reflects on him and puts him in a bad light. We are the fans who have hung in there through everything, gone to the concerts & resorts, bought the shirts & books and love our Red Rocker. We should be treated better!

You are so right! I flew in from Florida, to come back home for the book signing last night and was really excited he was coming to my home town on one of his stops! I'm very happy to have my book signed but honestly the experience wasn't any more special than it would have been to just buy a pre autographed copy on ebay or something equivalent and skip the hours in line that I sat there. The guys pushing you along to get to the next person in line really ruined it for me. I am disappointed that Sammy was ok with it the way that it was being handled. I'm sure a book signing tour is a pain the ass to deal with and he's probably looking forward to it being over and not having to sign his name for a long while afterward, but dude, many of us just wanna shake his hand, tell him how much we love him, get our book signed maybe a picture with him and go on with life. Not asking a lot here! I hope your kids weren't too disappointed. =(
