2010 Birthday Bash
2009 Birthday Bash

Redheads
The Wabos and I just played St Louis and had a blast. A number of Redheads there asked about the rumors that the Birthday Bash is changing this year. It is amazing how a conversation can become a rumor. I have already heard a lot of opinions and now I want to ask for your opinion too.

There seem to be several ideas that I'm hearing. One is just leave it alone! Two is sell tickets, enough with sleeping on the street in the rain. Been there, done that. Three is a combination of those with sell some, a limited number of free for waiting in line so you can get a ticket if the night is "sold out" already. I'm not sure how that would work. The fans I've talked to are very adamant about buying tickets so they can come to Cabo and know they will get into the Cantina. I understand that going all that way and not getting in must be frustrating. But it has worked as is for so long I hate to change what has become tradition.

So, tell me what you think and email your ideas to [email protected]. Whatever happens, I want you there with me as long as we keep doing the Bash.

Peace
Sammy

I don't understand your thinking? It's not like buying tickets to a show in the state's where there are 15,00 tix. Tickets are going to be gone in less than 5 minutes! Real redheads wont have a chance. I have a perfect solution for you. You seem to be more worried about your vacation and the local economy. Both worthy ventures. Why don't you vacation there any other week during the year? You can do whatever you want and spend all you want! No waiting in line!!!! Just a thought.

Sammy, thanx for asking us our opinion. even if you don't use any of them, it was great that you asked for it.

a lottery. just like the new meet & greet. people that are going to Cabo submit your names on-line. random names are drawn for each show. winner gets 2 tickets. you can't win for more than one show unless all names are used up. the cantina holds about 1000 so that's about 4000 people, possibly different people, gauranteed to get in to at least one show. no extra costs to the club, no need for security on the streets. people can party with their friends anywhere in Cabo, even on the street if they want to. me, i can think of a lot of other places to "Live it Up" and spend my $$$ other than on the streets next to the club. if you have a line for dinner tix, that's a different story. you might keep the line for that one because it comes with special priveliges and you can only fit what about 100 people for dinner. the "nostaglia" is not in tune with reality. the details can be changed to make it easier on your end, but thats the basics.

you can't please everybody and no matter what, somebody is not gonna be happy. but what makes the most common sense. when we went we started the line two days before the show to make sure we got in. i'd be thrilled as a pig in you know what to go to Cabo, enjoy my vacation, and see Sammy.

if you keep it the same this year it would be cool to have more line security or a system in place to keep the line "honest". my 2 cents just like anyone's.

Hi Sammy & thanks again for the great time we had with you at your studio on June 27th! I think I might have been the "igniter" of this topic since this was the big news you gave us during our time together that day! I apologize for posting it if you didn't want the info out there! But in my defence, I only posted the facts!

Much of what we discussed still holds true! Cabo San Lucas is not the same Cabo of 5, 10, 15, or 20 years ago! It has grown & with that has brought the dangers etc. of a larger town. It's nice that you have security for us out front of the Cantina those nights we sleep out, but what happens around the corner & down the street from the Cantina, you have no control over! That road has now become a major road through Cabo since the main drag has becoming a one way street. It's only a matter of time before some RedHead gets hit or run over while waiting for wristbands! Selling tickets early through an internet site would take care of this problem.
We liked your idea about selling all the shows except for the 13th this way & letting us have one night on the street as RedHeads with beefed up security to protect us! Doing it "Old School" for one night would be nice! We really liked your idea about the money from the ticket sales going to the kids in Cabo through Amigos de los Ninos! If you take a look at the thread, most people aren't opposed to the pre-sale of tickets, but to the cost. You talked about $55 & most replyed that would be too much! Whatever you decide to do will be accepted by the true RedHeads out there! We will be there with you no matter what you do! You have given us so many free shows there & have been so generous with your time...we have gotten spoiled! It's time we as RedHeads give back to you & especially the Kids of Cabo!

Thanks for asking for our opinions & again for a great day with you, that I will not soon forget!!

Hey thanks for asking our opinions, first of all! Of course it's impossible to please everybody, but it's great that you're open to input from the fans!

My opinion is that you should sell maybe half the tickets to each show in advance online. I like the idea someone else stated about Redrocker fan club dues going to charity, and the club members getting first dibs at buying tickets.

But also, limit it to maybe 2 shows/2tickets per show and the names have to be entered online and ID checked at the time of wristband pick-up so people can't scalp. Limiting it to 2 tickets/2shows will allow more fans to attend shows.

Keeping half the tickets as first-come-first-served will let people still sleep on the sidewalk if they want to see every single show. But definitely 1 or 2 shows is better than none!

I know some folks who have decided not to go anymore because they don't want to waste their vacation sleeping on the sidewalk. It's perfectly valid if you enjoy doing that...but when we're sitting on the sidewalk, we aren't boosting the local economy, we aren't eating in the restaurants or buying things from the shops or going on tours or boat rides or fishing. We aren't tipping waiters, unless we're close enough to the cantina doors to be ordering from the patio! ;-)

I'd like to add that I think there needs to be a bigger security presence on the sidewalk. I wish I didn't feel that way, but things just aren't the way they used to be; years ago, people waited their turn and it was "all good" but in recent years the line jumping is completely out of hand. Without risking getting in a fight, there's nothing you can do but sit and watch it happen, and it feels rotten.

Keep it the way it is ! I have been going to Cabo for years, and have never had a problem getting a wristband. Sometimes I've only waited a few hours in line. Other times have been longer. Selling tickets will lead to scalping, which defeats the whole purpose to begin with. How about creating a list of people who show up for wristbands. A security guy would maintain the list. He writes your name down when you arrive, then you sit your butt down. Security monitors the line, then when it comes time, you show security your I.D. , and get your wristbands. This would help stop people paying locals to wait in line, people cutting in line, and create a better atmosphere. Postalboy in Phoenix..............

I think alot of people are missing out on the point of, its YOUR Birthday Bash !! Its time for YOU, your closest friends & family to celebrate and have fun !! you cant please everybody...but?

If anything?...Find a large venue ( or land area ) in Cabo, start an annual Birthday Benefit Concert for whatever you'd like. Obviously, it may become more and more each year. More bands and so on... Not only boosting the local economy , but it'll allow people to plan ahead and get to see the Red Rocker in action !! Sell tix in advance via mail order only. Having them in a sealed envelopes allows you endless possibilities!! You could put raffle tix , backstage passes , Free Cabo Wabo admission to your private birthday party , etc...

As far as the "sidewalk sleepers" ?...Run with the same idea , only give them numbers, and randomly pick numbers for either the private party inside Cabo Wabo's or the concert!

And while I'm at it Sammy?...haha!!...Why not open a " Sammy's Red Rockers " in Rocky Point?!?!....Got a ring to it, dont it?!?!...haha!!

Take care brutha

I've been making the bash since 2000, and lot has happened over the years. Up until about 3 or 4 years ago, doing the line was not a problem. More people are coming, locals finally realized how much they could make if they didn't get to go to the show. Attitudes started to change with some of the new people arriving. I don't want to sit in line for 24 hours to get into a show. It takes too much time and effort to get to Cabo to miss all the other cool things that the area has to offer.
How about offering to fanclub members the option to purchase tickets to the shows in advance before we even leave for Cabo. If you have 5 shows, release the first 2 for sale 2 months before the bash and the remainder shows 1 month before the bash. Two tickets per person only with the names for the tickets listed when you purchase (just like an airline ticket). Match the ID at the door just like you do now. Keep a small amount of tickets (post the amount so you don't have 5,000 people sleeping on the sidewalk for 100 tickets) on hand for the "traditional sidewalk sleepers" and keep the dinner ticket sales as they are.
Keep the tickets at
$25 each and don't use TicketBastard as the broker so we don't have crazy fees.
This will help people who are serious about coming get their affairs in order, have more time to spend money in Cabo for the economy, and just do what vacation is ment for.
I love you Sammy. You and the Wabos are the best. Some of my favorite memories have come from visiting Cabo to see you every October. We've made great friends from all over the world, and can't wait for October to come each year!! Keep rockin!!

Longtime Redrocker (now known as RedHead) fan from back in the Texxas Jam days in Dallas Texas. Ive been a huge fan since the first time I saw you in '78. Been a fan of CABO for 7 years but unfortunatley, not during BDay BASH time. Last year I took my cousin to CABO for her first time. This year we are going during BDay BASH week to celebrate not only your bday but also hers; 10/14. I'll do what is needed to get us tix but it sure would be nice to know that we are IN by purchasing beforehand. With that said; I would really like to see that everyone has the chance by seeing the "GET TIX!" on the Upcoming Events page.

Peace & Love

Sell the tickets.

Here is how you do it. People have to sign up to become a CABO1013 member. $10 Fee. It goes to one of Sammy’s charities. This gives you the right to purchase 2 tickets to each show for $10.13. That money goes to charity. That way if you know you have the tix, you can kick back and enjoy cabo and not stress over if you will or will not get in.

I have been a ‘sidewalk’ sleeper. The last time we slept on the sidewalk – we noticed so many people cutting in line! We knew we were close enough to the front of the line that we would be getting our arm bands! When we finally got to the famous rope (front of the line), they closed the box and said “NO MORE ARM BANDS”…we could not believe it…..we saw several arm bands still in the box but no more arm bands were given out. Later that afternoon – we bought 2 arm bands for 20.00 each. Well I’m not sure who was getting the money, but if Sammy starts charging 20.00 a ticket I know in my heart that he will do good and donate all proceeds to help the children.

So because of our experience our vote is too sell arm bands for 20.00 each!!

See you Cabo…pillow in hand!

Sammy, why not let anyone born on October 13th (like me) in for free? I'd gladly spring for airfare and lodging for a chance to party with you on our birthday!

CaboNFall's picture

I for one have done the sidewalk time and am pretty much over it. it is just too costly to go and then not sleep in the bed you are paying good money for at the resort and enjoying ALL of Cabo. I think selling the tickets in advance($20?) and donating the money to ADLN would not only help the children there but let people know in advance they have them. Make them will call only the morning of the show and any tickets not picked up by a set time, then give those to people in line that want to go that route and specify NO REFUNDS to those that fail to pick them up. Also use the same set up for will call that is now in place, wristband with name that matches the name of the purchaser and written on them to re-check when you go into the show that evening. We have all seen the guys selling spots in line and cheating others, this will make it level for everyone.
I also wanted to add that Sammy is the one that fell in love with Cabo and he wanted to share it with us all. I’m guessing when he fell in love with Cabo it wasn’t because of the wonderful sidewalks and time wasted on them but the beauty that is Cabo! There are way too many better things to do in Cabo than to sleep on sidewalk. Hell think of the extra hours people will spend inside the Cantina instead of outside looking at it!
either way C U N Cabo

It's not broke....no fix needed! We go to Cabo every year and have never had a problem getting a wristband to every show. We sleep outside with awesome Sammy fans on the sidewalk and love it! Lets keep the tradition Sammy!

This subject has been discussed to death on the Redrocker forum. Everyone seems to feel differently...some like it the way it's always been (I think this might be the majority)...others would rather know they are getting in to a show before booking their trip, which is understandable. Maybe you should do both...a limited number of tickets you can either buy online, or do a lottery type deal...and the rest of the tickets FREE for those die-hard Redheads who choose to do the traditional line drill. Personally, I'll be there either way. OH, But the actual B-day Bash (the 13th) should ALWAYS remain the same!!

C U N CABO!!!

leave it the same

I agree. Leave it the same. I was one of the people in the rain last year. Not a big problem. I'll be there, rain or shine, free or not.

PLEASE!!!!!! Keep it the same way. I have been going for 13 years. Every night I have waited I got in. You just have to be dedicated. I go to Cabo to see the shows first and foremost. If I get to do other stuff while im there... Then thats all gravy
